Today we introduced Saige to the "fork". Don't get me wrong she's eaten off cutlery before, but today she got her very own plastic baby fork to experiment with. She let me help her for a couple mouthfuls and then she tried on her own for about 3 minutes before abandoning the concept. She proceeded to eat her mac & cheese (I swear I don't make this every week) with her fingers and when that was becoming too labor-intensive she picked up the bowl and let gravity do the rest. I remember doing that as a kid with the last of the cereal bowl milk ;)
Saige was incredibly fussy all day - I actually thought to myself a couple times today, "the end of my mat leave can't come soon enough" - bad mother alert. Seriously though I'm starting to get cabin fever - I need out of this house in the worst way! February 1st I'm back to work - can I get woot-woot?! Thankfully my good friend Adelle came over with her adorable son Jake and we went for a nice long walk & talk. When we returned home Becs and Caleb were waiting for us for a little after work visit. We made chilli for dinner and were slightly concerned by our taste test so we consulted our grandma/Saige's baba - apparently you can't make chilli 30 minutes before it's supposed to be served... I think Gram's exact words were "good luck with that". I thought it tasted pretty good considering I failed to read the full directions and added 1 tbsp of paprika instead of the recommended 1/4 tsp... what does paprika do anyways? Isn't that what people sprinkle on deviled eggs? hmmm deviled eggs :) I digress.
